Spy photographers have spotted a prototype of the new generation of the Porsche 911 Turbo, an everyday supercar.

Porsche's redesigned 992-generation 911 is already in showrooms in its basic Carrera version, and despite being the entry-level model in the range, it is a great performer. But we can expect several other versions to cater to Porsche's discerning customer base. Ultimately, there will be nearly 20 different models. This will include the new Turbo, which will be available in both coupe and convertible versions.

This prototype may look like an earlier Carrera tester. However, there are a number of clues that it is a turbo. A gaping hole in the rear fender and cooling vents on either side of the rear mask indicate a powerful engine. There are also additional intakes above the daytime running lights, an extended rear wing, and huge brake rotors.

The powertrain is the same as the previous generation, a flat-six twin-turbo, mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive system. Power should be up from the current turbo of 540 hp. The turbo should produce close to 600 hp, and the spicier Turbo S should produce close to 640 hp.

We hear that the Turbo S will eventually be electrified to 700 hp, but this is not expected to happen until the updated 992.2 is introduced around 2023. Yes, Porsche is working on a hybrid 911, and the Turbo S is a good starting point. It is also in line with Porsche's top-down electrification strategy, with the range-topping Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid also featuring a hybrid powertrain.

The new 911 Turbo will arrive shortly. Almost coinciding with its debut will be the track-focused 911 GT3.
