Maserati GranTurismo to cease production until February 3.
Sterantis has temporarily halted production at its sprawling Mirafiori plant in Turin, Italy. [Its vehicles include the Fiat 500e electric hatchback and gas and electric versions of the Maserati GranTurismo coupe and convertible.
Citing comments made by Sterantis to union officials, Reuters reported on December 20 that the suspension of Maserati GranTurismo production, which originally began in early December, will be extended for several weeks until February 3.
Production of the 500e had also already been suspended, but according to Reuters, the pause was extended for several weeks until January 20; production of the 500e had already been suspended several times over the past year due to slowing demand, especially in Europe, the car's main market.
To increase production, Fiat is modifying the car's EV platform to support a gas engine in a hybrid configuration. Fiat said in June that the 500 Hybrid, called the 500 Ibrida, will be available between late 2025 and early 2026.
The Mirafiori plant also produced Maserati's Gibli, Levante, and Quattroporte. While the Gibli will not be replaced, plans are underway to replace the Levante and Quattroporte, although the timing is unknown. Since Maserati has committed to offering only EVs by 2028, it is expected that the successor models will offer only electric powertrains.
