2022 Ram Level TRX Spy Shot.

The Raptor killer, the Ram Rebel TRX, has finally been spotted.

The super pickup was first unveiled in concept form in 2016, with production confirmed two years later.

It has now reached the prototype stage and should be unveiled late this year or early next year. Lamb is keen to say that its production will begin no later than 2022.

Although the prototype is heavily camouflaged, the Rebel TRX concept, based on the previous Ram 1500 model, is a good indicator of what kind of design we can expect. The widened wheel arches and huge grille are an unmistakable attribute. A ventilated hood with a power dome is also likely.

The prototype also showcases a beefed up suspension and wheel chocks with 13 inches of wheel travel, internal shock absorbers and other upgraded suspension. The car has also been fitted with an open differential and custom CV half axles up front for a wider track. The rear is equipped with Dynatrac Pro 60 axles and an electronic locking differential. Like the targeted F-150 Raptor, the Rebel TRX is designed with both on-road and off-road performance in mind.

But the real star of the show is what's under the hood: the Rebel TRX concept features a 6.2-liter Hellcat supercharged V8 engine, albeit downsized to 575 hp. The production version is expected to come in two variants. One is a naturally supercharged 7.0-liter V8 with 520 or 525 hp, and the other is a full-size Hellcat with 707 hp. In both cases, four-wheel drive is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Fans waiting for a full-fledged, powerful V8-powered truck from one of the OEMs will soon be able to get their wish thanks to Ram. And it's quite possible that Ford has no intention of putting up with it. The Blue Oval is rumored to be preparing a Raptor equipped with a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine from the Mustang Shelby GT500. The power of such a car can reach 760 hp.

Stay tuned.
