Volvo to withdraw EV pledge?

Volvo had announced in 2021 that it planned to sell only EVs by 2030.

Volvo announced in 2021 that it planned to sell only EVs by 2030, but on Wednesday it announced that it aims to have a combination of EVs and plug-in hybrids account for 90-100% of its sales by 2030.

In other words, Volvo may still sell gasoline-powered vehicles in 2030, but it will be less than 10% of its sales, and they will all be mild hybrids.

Volvo also has a long-term goal of becoming a 100% EV brand. Volvo is also currently preparing five EVs, including a midsize sedan called the ES90.

With the addition of the five new EVs to the five that Volvo already sells, Volvo will have a full lineup of EVs and be ready to become a pure EV brand should market conditions change, Volvo said.

In 2017, Volvo was one of the first legacy automakers to get serious about electrification, announcing that its entire lineup would consist solely of mild hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and EVs by 2020. in 2021, the automaker made a commitment to become an EV brand by 2030 The company promised that it would be an EV brand by 2030.
