Bentley Batur Unveils Convertible Limited to 16 Units

Bentley has unveiled the Batur, an exclusive coupe based on the Continental GT platform and built as a foregone conclusion to the venerable W-12 engine in 2022.

On Tuesday, Bentley unveiled the Batur Convertible and confirmed that only 16 will be built. This is a more exclusive model than the coupe, with a production run of 18 units.

Like the coupe, the convertible will be one of the last cars to be powered by Bentley's W-12 engine, which will be discontinued this summer. Future performance flagships will feature a V-8 plug-in hybrid powertrain and eventually an electric powertrain; Bentley's first EV is scheduled for late 2026.

The Batur, named after Bali's Lake Batur, will feature the familiar twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12 with its own tuning, producing 740 horsepower. This output in the coupe should enable it to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 3.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 209 mph, and the convertible shouldn't be far behind that pace.

But rather than offering top-line speed, the Batur is designed for true grand touring style and comfort. The retractable soft-top roof opens to reveal a two-seater and a unique "air bridge" resembling a rollover hoop, presumably serving some aerodynamic function. The airbridge sits atop a tapered cowl with a storage area beneath it.

Buyers will have a number of options to personalize their Batur Convertibles through Bentley's Mulliner personalization department; according to Bentley, buyers will be able to specify colors and finishes for virtually every surface of the car Bentley says that buyers will be able to specify the color and finish of virtually all surfaces of the car. The center console's drive mode selector will have a 3D-printed rose gold ring as an option. Rose gold will also be an option for the vent controls and steering wheel inserts, and Bentley says it worked with a jeweler in Birmingham, England, to create the unique parts.

This first Batur Convertible, a prototype called Car Number Zero, features a custom orange, Vermillion Gloss exterior. This color is also used on the grille, which fades to a darker shade in the center of the grille. It also accents the 22-inch wheels.

Pricing has not been announced, but is expected to exceed 2 million British pounds (approximately 2.5 million yen). Prices for the coupe start at 1.65 million British pounds ($2 million).
