2025 Audi S3, new look and improved performance

The Audi A3 will receive a mid-cycle update for the 2025 model year, and the updates will extend to the S3 and RS 3, the performance-oriented models in the series.

Audi unveiled the 2025 A3 in March and premiered the 2025 S3 on Monday. These cars will arrive in showrooms later this year, but again will be available in sedan-only body styles in the U.S., with the more practical hatchback not offered in other regions. An updated RS 3 should also arrive this year, but the timing of its reveal is unknown.

The styling updates made to the S3 are subtle, as with the A3, and include a newly designed fascia at both ends featuring L-shaped accents. The inside of the lights at both ends are also new, and for the first time, owners will have the option to change the pattern of the daytime running lights via the infotainment system. There are four designs to choose from.

Inside, new details will be added to the gear shifter and air vents, new options for trim and dash accents, and an ambient lighting package will be standard. There is also a built-in app store and new on-demand features that can be installed for a limited time only or permanently.

The U.S. version of the updated S3 will be finalized closer to market launch, but initial performance figures include 328 horsepower from the standard 2.0-liter turbo four, enough to govern 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. Included. The same engine in the current S3, which delivers 306 hp in the U.S.-bound model,

also takes over the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which Audi has optimized to deliver more starting torque and thus faster acceleration. Shift times under full load have also been reduced by half.

Another important change is the addition of a torque splitter, carried over from the RS 3. This is a Haldex differential with a multiplate clutch on each rear axle shaft, allowing the S3 to directly transmit torque not only between the front and rear axles, but also between the rear wheels. This should benefit handling during hard cornering.

Further control of the driving torque is possible through a brake-based torque vectoring system. This system, which applies braking to the inner wheels while cornering, has been further improved, as has the traction control system. The front brakes have also been enlarged, with ventilated discs measuring 14 inches, about 1.2 inches larger than before. These are housed in standard 18-inch wheels with Falken tires.

To further aid handling, the S3's MacPherson strut front suspension features new pivot bearings that allow for more negative wheel camber. According to Audi, along with stiffer wishbones, the updated S3 has more grip, resulting in better control during hard cornering.

Drivers can control a number of electronic chassis system settings using the drive mode selector. This mode also affects the engine by increasing the idle level to improve throttle response, delaying transmission upshifts and speeding downshifts.

Pricing information for the 2025 S3 will be announced closer to market launch later this year.
