Bigger, More High-Tech Honda Accord Coming in 2023

The enthusiasm for sedans may be waning around the world, but the sedan body style remains popular in the United States. And one of the most popular sedans is the Honda Accord, which sold a respectable 202,676 units in 2021.

Honda has now announced a redesigned Accord with two powertrain options (one of which is a hybrid) that will reach dealerships next January as a 2023 model.

The 11th generation Accord is based on a modular platform known as the Honda Architecture. It is stiffer than the current Accord's platform and offers improved handling and ride quality. The platform also supports hybrid technology, and Honda expects half of Accord buyers to opt for the electrification option.

The standard powertrain is a 1.5-liter turbo four that produces 192 hp and 192 lb-ft of torque. This engine is mated to a CVT only. The hybrid powertrain is a combination of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder and a two-motor hybrid system that serves as the transmission. It delivers a maximum output of 204 hp and maximum torque of 247 lb-ft. Both are driven only by the front wheels.

The overall length of the 2023 Accord is 195.7 inches, about 3 inches longer than the current model. The wheelbase is unchanged at 111.4 inches.

The interior is similar in design to the latest Civic and CR-V, with a mesh-like trim piece running across most of the dash below the standard 7.0-inch or available 12.3-inch infotainment screen. The larger screen adds wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, while the smaller screen still requires the use of a cord. Digital gauges appear on a 10.2-inch screen.

Other technical features include Google apps built into certain grades (Google Assistant, Google Maps, Google Play), wireless charging for mobile devices, support for wireless updates, and automatic emergency braking and traffic sign recognition multiple electronic driver assistance features.

Pricing information for the 2023 Accord will be announced closer to launch. As a guide, the 2022 model starts at $26,485 including destination.

Production for the U.S. market will take place at Honda's plant in Marysville, Ohio.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this article incorrectly stated that the hybrid powertrain of the 2023 Accord will feature a turbocharged engine.
