Spy shots and video of the 2021 Porsche 911 Targa

Porsche has just unveiled the next generation 911 992, but there will undoubtedly be as many or even more variants than the previous generation 991. From the base Carrera to the GT2 RS, there are about 20 variants.

Recent spy shots and videos show a prototype Targa, possibly a rear-wheel-drive Targa S or all-wheel-drive Targa 4S. In the previous generation 991 Targa was available up to the GTS level.

The prototype is not camouflaged; it is expected to arrive at dealers later this year as a 2021 model.

Porsche appears to have brought back design elements from the original 1965 model, including the distinctive crossbar, retractable soft-top roof and rear window. The crossbar also has a black satin finish rather than the classic silver.

With the exception of the roof, the Targa should be identical to the base Carrera variant. This means it will be powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter "six" developing 443 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque in the S version. The only transmission currently available is an eight-speed dual-clutch, but a regular manual will also be available.

If you're ready to order the newest open-top version of the 911 now, the regular Cabriolet is on sale now. The Carrera S Cabriolet starts at $127,350.
