2025 Dodge Durango drops 6.4-liter V-8

Durango is the last dodge still available on the Hemi V-8, but the era of popular 3-row SUV engines is coming to an end.

Dodge hasn't set an expiration date on the v-8 yet, but it's dropping one of Durango's 3 available V-8s to 1 model in 2025.

The American Muscle brand announced on Wednesday that the already orderable 2025 Durango will only be available with the 360-horsepower 5.7-litre and 710-horsepower supercharged 6.2-litre V-8, plus the base 360-horsepower 3.6-litre V-6. The previously available 475-horsepower 6.4-liter V-8 has been removed.

The supercharged 6.2-liter V-8, reserved for the Durango SRT Hellcat model, will also be available in a limited number only. Parent company Stellantis will stop production of the engine at the end of 2023, and the remaining inventory is shrinking. The 2025 Durango SRT Hellcat is the last Stellantis product available with an engine and the high-performance SUV will receive several special editions to celebrate it These include silver bullets, hammerheads and brass monkeys.

Dodge is also celebrating 2025 years of availability of the Hemi V-8 in Durango for the 20-year model. The 5.7-liter V-8 is equipped with the R/T20 anniversary special model.

There were no major changes to Durango in 2025, but the lineup has been streamlined. In addition to the special edition and SRT Hellcat Performance flagship, buyers can choose from the base GT models and the midrange R/T.The GT comes with an R/T with a V-6 and a 5.7-liter V-8.

The GT's available plus package is enhanced with more standard features, including a power sunroof, navigation, nine-speaker Alpine audio system, heated first and second columns (with first row vents), and a range of electronic driver assist features. The 10.1-inch touchscreen is also standardised in all 2025 Durango.

Dodge plans to launch a more special version of the Durangos before all V-8 engines are finally dropped. Just as it did with the last V-8 powered Challenger and Charger Muscle car, Dodge is also planning a series of "Last Call" special editions to mark the end of the V-8's run at Durango. The first of these will be revealed on May 2024 as the Durango SRT392AlcHemi, and further scheduled for May 1, 2025.

Then Dodge plans to introduce a Durango replacement in 2026, which is now rumored to be a smaller crossover that revives the stealth name.
