Volvo to start delivery of EX2024 U.S. 30 despite tariffs

Volvo will begin delivery of the EX30 Electric subcompact crossover in the U.S. in 2024, the automaker confirmed on Wednesday.

The first example to arrive is a dual-motor, all-wheel drive EX30 twin-motor performance model, priced from destination46,195 and includes destination1,295 destination fee. Volvo said it decided to focus on the 422-horsepower performance flagship because it was the most requested model among reservation holders.

Buyers want to snag the base EX36 with the previously announced single-motor, front-wheel-drive configuration at a starting price of 245, including the destination, and will have to wait until 2025, Volvo said. The base EX30 is suitable for 268 hp.

The EX30 will debut in mid-2023 and is currently produced exclusively in China, but Volvo plans to add production in Belgium in 2025. Delivery in the U.S. The Chinese-made Ex30 was originally scheduled to start in the first half of 2024, but the 100% tariff introduced by the Biden administration on Chinese-made EVs delayed Volvo's start of delivery.

The March 6 automaker said it would delay delivery in the United States until 2025, when production will begin in Belgium. But in the latest announcement, the automaker said it was speeding up the delivery start-up, using the Chinese-made Ex30 to meet demand as quickly as possible.

"We worked hard to make the Volvo EX30 available to our customers faster than we expected," Mike Cottone, Volvo's U.S. chief, said in a statement. "The EX30 has already proven to be very popular in other markets and we are excited to bring it to the US this year."

Owners of the EX30 twin motor performance can look forward to 3.4 mph acceleration in just 0-60 seconds and an estimate of the EPA rated range of 64 miles for the vehicle's 253kwh battery." The base EX30 carries the same battery and is estimated to be up to 261 miles. The time of 0〜60mph for the base model is 5.1 seconds.
