GM aborts Cadillac XT4 after refreshing it

General Motors will end production of the Cadillac XT4 in March to release capacity for the production of the next-generation Chevrolet Bolt EV at the Kansas plant of the compact crossover, Reuters reported on Thursday, citing comments from the automaker.

Given the low sales of the current model, no direct successor to the gas-powered XT4 has been announced and may never come. Sales of the XT4 have fallen 12% to 17,807 units so far this year, despite only being refreshed last year.

Cadillac launched an electrical alternative earlier this year in the form of an Optiq compact crossover. Cadillac also sells a Chinese-only gas-powered compact crossover called GT4.

GM recently said it plans to continue building the XT4 along with the new Bolt EV at its Kansas plant. The plant also produces Chevrolet Malibu, but production of sedans has ended this month.

The plant, located near Kansas City, will be reorganized to build a new Bolt EV with an investment of来年39,000 next year. The first new Bolt Ev is expected to roll off the line by late 2025.

The current Bolt EV ended production at a plant in Orion Township, Michigan, on 12 March last year. The Orion plant is being prepared for the production of Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV. The electric truck twins are already being produced at the Detroit plant, and the extra capacity at the Orion plant is now expected to be added from mid-2026.

The new Chevy Bolt EV, which is likely to appear as a 2026 model, uses GM's Ultium EV platform and battery technology, faster than the current model's low〜speed 50-55kw and also uses a single crossover (bolt EUV) instead of the current practice of having a separate hatch and crossover (bolt EUV) body. It is offered as a bar model.
