Truck tuner Solomon Langer builds 1969 Ford F-100 for SEMA Show

Early Ford F-Series pickup trucks are a popular option in the vehicle customization scene, partly due to the abundance of options and spare parts. And one company that is slowly building a reputation for impressive F-Series builds is Ford Era, run by Solomon Langer.

He recently teamed up with Ford to develop a custom 1969 F-100 for the 2024 SEMA Show in Las Vegas next week. He nicknamed his truck Clyde and said he built it to showcase the F-100's classic form and features with a modern twist.

That modern twist came in the form of a carbon fiber body and a 5.2-liter V-8 supercharged engine borrowed from the latest F-150 Raptor R.

The F-150 Raptor R is a modern version of the F-150 Raptor R. However, rather than sticking with the V-8's stock 720 hp, Lunger and his crew bolted on a new 3.8-liter Whipple supercharger and a number of other modifications to boost peak power to over 900 hp.

Other upgrades include a Porterbuilt Stage 2 coilover chassis from Fat Fender Garage, a set of forged custom wheels, and a new interior covered in leather trim.

Ford unveiled its own custom F-100 at the SEMA Show a few years ago, but with an electric powertrain instead of a conventional V-8. Known as the Elminator, this electric powertrain was offered for a limited time. It excluded the battery, which had to be procured separately by the builder.

At this year's SEMA, Ford will also launch a new in-house customization program, Ford Custom Garage. The program will offer limited upgrade packages for Ford's popular trucks and SUVs from time to time to enhance both the style and performance of the vehicle. The packages will maintain Ford's new vehicle warranty and the vehicles will be serviced at any Ford dealership, the automaker said.

The first two packages are designed for the Bronco and include suspension components and design tweaks. A street-truck package for the F-150 is also being prepared, which will boost power to 700 hp.
