Genesis Enters Top-Level Endurance Race at LMDh

Genesis appears to be joining the likes of Cadillac, Lamborghini, and Porsche in a racing program built around the new LMDh cars.

No details have been released regarding when Genesis will compete or the specific series in which it will compete; LMDh cars are currently eligible to compete in the GTP and Hypercar classes of the IMSA Sports Car Championship and FIA World Endurance Championship, respectively.

LMDh has also qualified for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and Genesis may soon be looking to win the French classic race outright. The 24 Hours of Le Mans is the main event on the WEC calendar.

Genesis said that the LMDh program will help develop future technologies for road cars and also promote the brand in terms of performance, which is becoming more important as Genesis prepares to launch cars under its recently established performance sub-brand, Magma He stated that this would be.

“Genesis is actively considering a program to enhance its high-performance image, and after a thorough evaluation of various options, LMDh emerged as the most strategic choice at this time,” the automaker said in a statement.

As for the powertrains that can be installed in LMDh machines, the constructors have a lot of freedom, but the maximum output is limited to 670 hp. In addition, the LDMh rules require teams to get chassis from one of four suppliers in order to keep costs down. These include Oreca, Dallara, Ligier, and Multimatic.

Most LMDh machines combine a gas engine with a motor generator. This setup is similar to the one used by Genesis in its X-Gran Racer Vision Gran Turismo racing car concept unveiled in June, and may eventually be used in the new Magma model.

Hyundai Motorsports is responsible for Hyundai N's efforts in various rally and touring car series and will oversee Genesis' LMDh program. Successes to date by the team include Manufacturers' titles in the 2019 and 2020 seasons of the World Rally Championship and multiple titles in various TCR series.
