2026 Audi Q5 Sportback is unveiled for the first time

The redesigned Audi Q5 will debut soon, but camouflaged prototypes have been circulating for some time.

The latest prototype spotted has a coupe-like sportback body style and should arrive six months to a year later than the regular Q5.

The regular Q5 should go on sale next spring or early summer, probably as a 2026 model in the US.

These vehicles are mechanically similar to the redesigned A5 hatchback that debuted in July as the successor to the A4; the A4 name is gone for now, but should return in the future with the E-Tron electric sedan. This reorganization is part of Audi's naming strategy of using even numbers for EV models and odd numbers for gas-powered models.

The new Q5 rides on a platform known as the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC), which debuted on the new A5. The powertrains should also be the same for both cars. This means that the Q5 will be powered by a 2.0-liter turbo four, while the SQ5 will be powered by a 3.0-liter V6 turbo with 362 horsepower. The only transmission available will be a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, and all-wheel drive will likely be standard in the U.S., as it is in the current model. [As for the interior, the design will likely be the same as the one Audi uses on the A5. That is, a curved panel angled toward the driver, with an integrated 11.9-inch digital meter cluster and a 14.5-inch for the Android-based infotainment system.

Production of the Q5 for North America currently takes place at the Audi plant in Mexico. This will be the same for the new generation.

Stay tuned for updates as development progresses.
