2025 Volvo EX90 even more expensive.

Those who pre-ordered the 2025 Volvo EX90 should prepare for some sticker shock as the electric mid-size SUV's price has increased ahead of the start of deliveries.

Volvo has raised the price of the entire 2025 EX90 lineup by $3,300, bringing the starting price to $81,290, including a $1,295 destination charge. This is up from the original price of $77,990 announced last fall.

Volvo spokeswoman Sofia Derr told Automotive News (subscription required) that the price increase was announced to reservationists and dealers on June 26 and was due to rising material costs.

The EX90 is expected to be available at dealers at the end of the year. The U.S.-bound model will be sourced from the Volvo plant near Charleston, South Carolina, which began producing the three-row SUV in June. The plant will also produce the related Polestar 3 for the U.S.

The EX90 is positioned as Volvo's flagship, but the three-row SUV has had its problems: it debuted in November 2022 and was originally scheduled to begin deliveries early this year. Software issues caused the delay, and Volvo said in June that buyers would not initially have access to several key features, including Apple CarPlay and Plug & Charge.

These issues and price increases will not help in the current environment of cooling demand for EVs. Some dealers told Automotive News that if Volvo sticks to its current plan of selling only EVs by the end of the decade, it will not survive, and they want the automaker to continue offering plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Volvo has also been forced to delay the launch of its EX30 electric subcompact crossover in the US due to the recent sharp increase in tariffs on Chinese-made EVs. In order to avoid the tariffs, Volvo will now wait to begin production of the EX30 in Europe, which would delay the launch to 2025.
