2025 BMW 2 Series undergoes minor changes and price increases

It's hard to get a rear-wheel-drive compact coupe from a premium brand these days unless you're willing to pay $50,000 or more.

The 2025 model will go on sale this August with a starting price of $40,375, including a $1,175 destination charge. This is $580 more than last year, but BMW has made some updates, albeit mild ones.

The new model year brings new paint finishes, wheel patterns, steering wheel designs, and interior trim options, as well as a 14.9-inch infotainment screen (which adds a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster) home The iDrive interface has been updated, leaving a customizable section on the screen. This allows owners to add their favorite features and have them readily available at any time.

Frequently used functions, such as climate control and heated seats, also have a permanent place on the home screen, but these functions will have no physical controls. For those who dislike using the screen, many functions can be controlled using BMW's voice assistant.

Other changes include new control knobs on the dash vents and an updated ambient lighting system with new elements on the central vent cover. The steering wheel is available in two designs. In addition to the standard two-spoke design, an M steering wheel with leather trim and flat bottom design is available.

The powertrain remains unchanged. The base grade 230i is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo four with a maximum output of 255 hp. This engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic and drives the rear wheels as standard, or all four wheels when all-wheel drive, an additional $2,000 option, is selected.

Buyers looking for even more performance can opt for the M240i, which starts at $51,275 including destination. Rear-wheel drive is standard here, too, and all-wheel drive is a $2,000 option. The M240i is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder with 382 horsepower. An eight-speed automatic is also standard on this grade, with a quick 0-60 mph time of 4.1 seconds. Top speed is 130 mph for all grades, but increases to 155 mph when summer tires are used.

The M240i comes standard with the M Sport Package, which is also available on the 230i grade; the 2025 M Sport Package features larger air intakes, new vertical reflectors in the front and diffuser-like inserts in the rear The fascia has been redesigned.

BMW will also continue to offer the M2 in 2025. This hard-core coupe has been uniquely updated with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder with 20 hp more, raising total output to 473 hp.

Production of the 2 Series takes place at BMW's plant in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
