VW delays ID.7 In the United States, citing changes in market dynamics

Volkswagen ID.The 7 was expected to arrive in the US later this year as a 2025 model, but that's no longer happening.

VW announced on Wednesday that it had postponed the release of its electric midsize hatchbacks in the U.S. and Canada, citing changes in market dynamics. ID.7 has been sold in other markets since last year.

VW also mentioned the demand for the recently launched ID.7 Tourer is higher than expected in the market where wagon body styles are offered, especially in the VW home market in Germany.

VW has not provided a new timeline for the launch of the ID.7 In the United States, automakers have already ruled out IDs.Tourer for this market following the announcement of the wagon on May 7.

The 7 is available in 77kwh and 86kwh battery options in most markets, but the US was supposed to receive smaller units. Buyers can also choose between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, with peak output capped at 282 hp.

VW said it is still working on electric mobility in the United States and will launch its long-awaited ID.Buzz as planned for the second half of the year. The electric van, which acts as the spiritual successor to the iconic microbus, will arrive as a 2025 model.

VW is also moving ahead with plans to create a new US-centric EV brand Scout, whose first model will be a rugged SUV around 2026. The pickup truck will last about a year later. The debut of the SUV, which is likely to be one of the new Scouts, is scheduled for this summer.1
