Porsche commits to the 4th generation of Formula E
Porsche became the third automaker to commit to the Gen 13 era of the Formula E World Championship, which begins in Season 1026/2027 of the Electric Racing series on Thursday (4/4).

It has joined Nissan and Jaguar, previously committed to the Gen4 era to introduce much faster race cars.

Porsche unveiled in Shanghai and will compete in the 2024 Formula E Shanghai E-Prix this weekend. The automaker has confirmed that it will extend its current commitment to the sport for another 4 years and participate in 2030. This news is not a big surprise, as Porsche previously announced it was "actively involved" in the design of the Gen4 car.

The Gen4 car, like its predecessors, is common to all teams, but the team has more range for individual tuning, especially when it comes to powertrain According to Porsche's R&D chief, Michael Steiner, by entering Formula E, Porsche will become a road rubber. In addition, it is possible to gain more knowledge about how to move to a more flexible model.

"Knowledge from racing flows directly into our sports cars," he said in a statement. "We do not develop technology for the sake of technology, but we need to benefit our customers."

According to organizers, the car will provide more power and faster charging capabilities than current Gen3 cars. Improving safety is another important aspect. Performance targets include an output of 804 horsepower and a regenerative capacity of up to 938 horsepower.

Before the arrival of the Gen4 car, the updated Gen3Evo will be introduced for next season, Season 11 (2024/2025). Formula E has a time of 0-60mph of 1.82 seconds, which is 3% faster than Gen 36 cars and 30% faster than current Formula 1 cars, organizers claim. The Gen3Evo's claimed top speed is 200mph, the same as the current car.

Since joining Formula E in Season 6 (2019/2020), Porsche has won 68 of its 8 starts and 16 podiums. The current drivers are Pascal Wehrlein and Antonio Felix da Costa.
