2025 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe and i4 debut

The BMW 4 Series is undergoing a mid-cycle refresh for 2025, and on Wednesday BMW unveiled updated versions of the 4 Series Gran Coupe hatchback and the related i4 electric vehicle.

The reveal follows the January unveiling of the 2025 4 Series coupe and convertible and the 2025 M4.

Updates to the 2025 4 Series are limited, with exterior design tweaks hard to find. The headlights have been changed, and laser light accents similar to those used on the M4 CSL Limited Edition have been added to the taillights. Exterior colors and wheel patterns have also been changed.

On the interior, the 4 Series Gran Coupe and i4 steering wheels have been redesigned, adding brushed aluminum and various open-pore wood finish trim options BMW's more intuitive iDrive 8.5 interface features a 12 .3-inch digital meter cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, mounted under a curved glass wall; Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and a heads-up display is available.

The gas powertrain will come standard with a new 48-volt mild hybrid system, but BMW says the i4's electric powertrain will remain unchanged.

The 2025 4 Series Gran Coupe will again be offered in the U.S. in 430i and M440i grades; the 430i will continue to be powered by a 255 hp 2.0-liter turbo four, while the M440i will have a 375 hp 3.0-liter turbo inline six. The only transmission available will be an 8-speed automatic, and rear-wheel drive will continue to be standard, but all-wheel drive will continue to be an option.

BMW has not revealed what powertrains the 2025 i4 will offer, but the electric hatch has so far been available in eDrive35, eDrive40, and M50 grades. eDrive35 will have a single rear motor rated at 218 hp and a 70.2 kwh battery and EPA rated up to 256 miles; the eDrive40 had one rear motor rated at 335 hp, and the M50 had dual-motor all-wheel drive rated at 536 hp. Both models used an 83.9 kwh battery and were EPA-rated at 301 miles for the eDrive40 and 271 miles for the M50.

The 2025 4 Series Gran Coupe and i4 are scheduled to go on sale later this year, with pricing to be announced closer to launch. Although not yet confirmed, it is believed that a hard-core M4 CS is also planned for the 2025 model year.
