Formula E Gen3 Evo racer achieves 0-60 mph in 1.82 seconds

Formula E has unveiled a high-speed version of its electric racing car ahead of the 2024 Monaco E Grand Prix.

The Gen 3 Evo will debut in Season 11, which runs from later this year through 2025, replacing the current version of the Gen 3 introduced in Season 9. Formula E will continue to require all teams to use the same chassis design, but the powertrains will be developed independently and will require re-homologation in Season 11.

Formula E has announced a 0-60 mph time of 1.82 seconds for the Gen 3 Evo, which organizers claim is 36% faster than current Gen 3 cars and 30% faster than current Formula 1 cars. Formula E also expects lap times on the Monaco street circuit to be an average of 0.2 seconds faster. The top speed will remain the same at 200 mph.

The Gen 3 Evo also features all-wheel drive, but this is only available during qualifying, at the start of the race, and when the driver uses attack mode.

The car will also be fitted with a new body kit that Formula E claims is more aerodynamic than conventional bodywork, and new Hankook Ion tires that offer 5-10% more grip than conventional rubber. The tires are made from 35% recycled and sustainable materials, with a 9% increase in sustainable material content over the previous Gen 3 tires

.

The Gen 3 Evo will compete in seasons 11 and 12, and the new Gen 4 will debut in season 13.

Nissan became the first manufacturer in March, followed this week by Jaguar. This means that both manufacturers will be competing in Formula E until at least 2030. Meanwhile, iconic racing car constructor Lola Cars will enter Season 11 in partnership with Yamaha.
