2025 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance lands with 805 hp

Mercedes-Benz AMG continues to expand its lineup of redesigned GT coupes, this time adding a plug-in hybrid for the first time. [2025 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT 63 S E Performance, the most powerful version of the GT coupe with 805 hp and 1,047 lb-ft of torque from a refined plug-in hybrid powertrain, will arrive in U.S. dealers later this year

This power unit will be available at dealerships in the United States later this year.

The powertrain consists of a front-mounted twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 that produces 603 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque on its own and drives all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission. At the rear is an electric motor that produces up to 201 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque at the rear axle via a two-speed gearbox.

According to Mercedes, the 0-60 mph time is 2.7 seconds, making the GT 63 S E Performance the fastest "series production" AMG model to date. Top speed is reported to be 199 mph.

The 6.1 kwh battery pack mounted above the rear axle takes lessons learned from Formula One to increase energy density and enable faster energy extraction. A direct cooling system for the pack's 560 cylindrical cells also helps to remove excess heat quickly. Mercedes has not announced the EPA-estimated range based on electric power alone. Nor has it disclosed the charging time.

Four levels of brake energy regeneration are possible, and Mercedes claims that up to 100 kw can be returned to the battery pack. Normal friction braking is handled by carbon ceramic rotors with six-piston calipers at the front and single-piston calipers at the rear.

Rear-wheel steering and AMG Active Ride Control Active Roll Stabilization are standard, while AMG Active Ride Control hydraulically links all four wheels to localize impact from bumps and other obstacles for added comfort, while the sportier The sportier setting suppresses body roll.

The retractable rear spoiler automatically adjusts to five different angles (above 50 mph) depending on the drive mode. It can also lower the ride height by 1.6 inches at speeds above 50 mph and activates an underbody active aerodynamics element that reduces front axle lift. Standard aerodynamics-optimized 20-inch wheels with 295/35-size tires in the front and 305/35-size tires in the rear (21-inch wheels are also available).

Pricing will be revealed closer to the E Performance's arrival at dealers, but the plug-in hybrid is expected to be at the top of the AMG CT coupe lineup. The lineup already includes the GT 55 and GT 63, launched for the 2024 model year, and the AMG GT 43, also launching in 2025.

Another version, called the GT 63 S and expected to sit between the GT 63 and GT 63 S E Performance, could appear as a 2026 model year.
