2025 Ford Puma EV is unveiled for the first time

Ford has plans to exclusively sell electric vehicles in Europe by the end of the decade, and now we have spy shots of one of the electric vehicles in development for the Old Continent.

Shown in the spy shots is a prototype of an electric version of the Ford Puma, a subcompact crossover that will go on sale in Europe in 2019 and had a midcycle refresh last year. The electric version, which may be called the Puma Gen-E, is expected to debut later this year.

But don't look for it in U.S. showrooms. The prototype is heavily camouflaged, but the battery pack housing is visible below. The front grille is also sealed for aerodynamic efficiency, and the wheels have a unique design optimized for aerodynamic efficiency.

Ford has confirmed plans for an electric Puma in 2022. The automaker has not announced specifications, but a battery size of around 50 kwh is likely for this class of vehicle. This should be sufficient to achieve a range approaching 200 miles on a single charge.

Ford also plans to introduce an electric compact crossover with coupe-like styling later this year. That model, which may revive the Capri name, has also been spotted in test runs. Unlike the electric Puma, which shares its platform with its gas-powered sibling, the EV will use a dedicated EV platform.

The EV platform is the Volkswagen Group's MEB design, which Ford also uses for the Explorer, an electric compact crossover designed for Europe. The electric Explorer was unveiled last year. Ford's use of the MEB platform was made possible by an agreement signed with VW Group in 2019.
