Lamborghini Telemetry X promises remote driver instruction

Lamborghini is considering a variety of digital tools to hone its drivers' skills on the race track, and previewed one of the more promising options at the 2024 CES currently underway in Las Vegas.

The automaker showed off a system called Telemetry X. It takes information from a performance data recorder and combines it with biometric data to provide insights for improving lap times.

It also uses a high-speed 5G connection to give driver coaches access to real-time information and puts drivers in touch with a remote driver coach who can provide live feedback and suggestions to take things to the next level. [Telemetry X also includes a digital voice assistant that can use information gathered from the vehicle's performance data recorder and driver biometrics to provide helpful advice, such as improving racing lines and braking points.

Key biometric data used include heart rate, body temperature, and breathing, which Lamborghini says will provide useful information on how drivers can refine their training.

Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann presented the Telemetry X at CES in the company's new Revuelto supercar. He said in his presentation that such a system is a preview of the connected services that Lamborghini customers will be able to experience "in the coming years."

The V-12 plug-in hybrid supercar is already on sale, with prices starting at just over $600,000. Production slots for the car have already been allocated for the next two years, so those who order today will face a long wait for delivery.
