Toyota, Lexus to introduce Tesla NACS connector from 2025

Owners of Toyota and Lexus electric vehicles will soon have access to more than 12,000 Tesla supercharged DC fast chargers located throughout North America.

Toyota on Thursday not only gained access to a network of North American charging stations, but EV's own joint charging contract, known as NACS (North American Charging Standard), also applies to Lexus.

Some Toyota and Lexus electric vehicles sold in the United States will have built-in NACS connectors starting in 2025. Among them is Toyota's three-row electric SUV, which will be built in Kentucky and will produce the Lexus Twin.

Adapters for access to Tesla chargers, starting in 2025, for owners of Toyota and Lexus electric vehicles with CCS connectors, including those that are already on the way.

This step will significantly increase the number of DC fast chargers available to Toyota and Lexus owners. According to the Department of Energy, Tesla superchargers currently account for about 60% of fast-charging DC devices in the United States. Tesla began selling chargers to competing brands after striking a deal with the White House on May 2. BMW (as well as Mini and Rolls-Royce), Fisker, Ford, Honda (and Acura), Hyundai (and Genesis), Jaguar, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Polestar, Rivian and Volvo also have contracts with Tesla to use charging stations, and many of these companies have announced plans Do not use NACS connectors for vehicles in North America.

Toyota was in no hurry to switch to electric vehicles, but now it is planning one of the largest introductions of electric vehicles in the industry. Earlier, Toyota promised to release 30 electric vehicles worldwide by 2030 and make Lexus an electric vehicle brand in the United States, Europe, China and other parts of the world by 2035. Car manufacturers are also considered leading when it comes to solid-state batteries, a technology that promises to provide a significantly longer range and faster charging time than existing batteries
