2023 Dodge Demon 170 gets one-off jailbreak option for select buyers

Some buyers of the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 were offered a special jailbreak option that included a one-color paint job.

According to postings on the SRT Hellcat Forum, 20 to 25 customers were selected by Dodge for the Demon 170 jailbreak option. Each Demon 170 could choose one of 40 colors, a mix of retro and modern. According to the post, all participants were sent samples of all 40 color options, and the first person to respond via email was able to choose the color. Only one car was painted in each color.

Dodge spokesman Darren Jacobs later confirmed to Motor Authority that some customers were offered a one-off jailbreak option based on brand loyalty.

"Select individuals were offered this special paint option based on their new Dodge Charger and Challenger purchase history and Dodge brand affiliation," Jacobs said. This one-of-a-kind paint option adds even more customization and collectability to the record-breaking Challenger SRT Demon 170 and was offered exclusively to those who meant a lot to the latest era of Dodge muscle." This option is no longer offered.

Announced in March, the Demon 170 was the seventh and final "last call" special edition, ending the current internal combustion engine era of the Challenger coupe and its sibling, the Dodge Charger sedan. Dodge's 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine in the Demon 170 delivers 1,025 hp and 945 lb-ft of torque on E85 (power output is reduced on E10 premium fuel) and 0-60 mph acceleration in 1.66 seconds on a leveled surface without rollout, NHRA-approved quarter mile of 151.17 mph in a claimed 8.91 seconds.

Production will be limited, but the exact number will depend on how many units can be built before production of the Challenger officially ends on December 31. The MSRP is $96,666, but a $1,595 destination charge and a $2,100 gas guzzler tax bump the effective base price to $100,361. One buyer paid $700,000 for the final production quota at auction. Dodge has not disclosed how much customers will pay for the Jailbreak paint option, but rumor has it that a one-off paint job will cost $30,000.
