Manthey-Racing Boosts Performance of Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS

Manthey-Racing, which Porsche sometimes asks to run its motorsports program, is already brimming with performance right out of the box! upgrade package for the 718 Cayman GT4 RS.

Manthey-Racing is a German motorsports and engineering company based at the Nürburgring that has recently gotten into the game of upgrading Porsche road cars. Its products are available in Porsche showrooms, including here in the US.

Its latest road car is the 718 Cayman GT4 RS MR, developed using lessons learned from Manthey's work on the Cayman GT4 Clubsport racer.

Called the Mantai kit, this upgrade package focuses on aerodynamics and chassis components and has reduced the Nurburgring lap time of the 718 Cayman GT4 RS by 6.179 seconds from the stock car to 7:03.121. Both cars used Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires.

Chief among the upgrades is a new coilover suspension with four adjustable spring struts and adjustable rebound and compression stages. Adjustments can be made without tools. The front suspension spring rate has also been increased by 20%.

For the brakes, steel hoses have been added to ensure optimal braking power on the track. Brake pads suitable for circuit driving are also available.

In the area of aerodynamics, a wider rear wing with four levels of adjustment and an extension to the stock ducktail spoiler have been added. This is complemented by a new front air curtain with wheel arch gurney flaps and a new carbon underbody with an exclusive diffuser. According to Manthey, total downforce increases from 196 pounds to 372 pounds from the stock 196 pounds, when traveling at 124 mph.

Buyers can also opt for aero discs for the rear wheels to smooth airflow on the sides of the vehicle.

With no changes to the powertrain, the 4.0-liter flat-six produces a maximum output of 493 hp, all of which is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

No pricing information has been released, but Porsche says the Mantai kit will be available in Europe starting in December, with sales in other markets to be announced at a later date.
