2024 Porsche Cayenne teased ahead of 2023 Shanghai Motor Show

Porsche has released a teaser look at the updated Cayenne, which will premiere at the 2023 Shanghai Motor Show next week.

Sales will follow later this year, with the updated mid-size SUV slated as a 2024 model.

According to Porsche, the update is one of the most important for existing models and will help keep the vehicle fresh with the planned launch of the fourth generation fully electric Cayenne around 2026. For a short period of time, Porsche plans to sell a gasoline-powered vehicle alongside the electric car.

The update will touch on several key areas including powertrain, chassis, exterior styling, and cabin. In March, Porsche unveiled a new interior design with a fully digital dash similar to the one used in the electric Tycann. The current model's analog gauges have been eliminated in favor of a 12.7-inch digital meter cluster. There is also a 12.3-inch infotainment screen and a 10.9-inch screen for the passenger seat.

As for the exterior, a new teaser shot reveals flatter, more angular headlights, similar to the design used on the Taycan. The headlights are Porsche's latest matrix LED design, with four individual projectors instead of the single main unit found on the current Cayenne series. According to Porsche, the new lights provide a more precise light pattern and are twice as bright as the current version.

In the chassis department, Porsche will offer adaptive dampers as standard equipment on all series. Larger tires also contribute to improved comfort and grip levels.

It is not clear what updates Porsche plans for the powertrain, but rumors suggest that the Cayenne S will drop the current twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6 in favor of Porsche's twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8. Since Porsche typically raises horsepower in most grades through updates, it is likely that other grades will see powertrain tweaks as well.

Currently, the top of the lineup is the Turbo S E-Hybrid grade, with a maximum output of 670 hp. The Cayenne Coupe has a new Turbo GT grade with a twin-turbo V-8 that produces 631 hp on its own, but it is not clear if this grade will join the regular Cayenne lineup.

The Cayenne Coupe will also be updated along with the regular SUV.

The Shanghai Auto Show starts on April 18.
