Porsche's road-finding app adds feature to create scenic routes

The Roads by Porsche app, which helps drivers design customized routes, is getting its first major update since launching in 2019.

The free iOS app now includes a scenic route generator that uses software to assemble routes based on inputs such as curves, terrain, landscape features, or points of interest. Users can also specify to drive around or navigate to a specific destination and transfer the selected route to the car's infotainment system using Apple CarPlay.

While traditional navigation apps aim to get drivers to their destination in the shortest possible distance, Porsche says this feature is designed to provide maximum enjoyment for the individual driver. In this case, the journey is more important than the destination.

Like all previous Porsche driving apps, Roads by Porsche is open to non-Porsche drivers. Drivers can share their customized routes with more than 180,000 users, who can then try the routes themselves. The app also suggests routes for the week and highlights points of interest.

With the update, Porsche says it has a cleaner design. The app also includes a region-based dashboard that allows drivers to more easily find routes based on their current location, search filters, and shortcuts to the most popular route profiles.

The updated Roads by Porsche app can be downloaded from the Apple AppStore. However, it is not yet available for Android users.
