The 2024 Ford Edge is destined for China

Ford was spotted testing a prototype of the new Edge crossover.

The current Edge has been on sale since the 2015 model year and could certainly use a redesign. However, the Edge in the spy shots is being developed specifically for the Chinese market and is not expected to reach the U.S.

The U.S.-spec Edge is expected to disappear later this year. Ford has remained silent on the future of this nameplate in the U.S., but with the Edge's Oakville Ford assembly plant in Canada scheduled to be renovated to produce EVs in 2024, it could be a twin electric successor to the Lincoln Nautilus. The first EVs are expected to be produced there in 2025.

The Edge spy shot has already been posted on the website of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Its debut is expected later this year.

The crossover features the same sculptural design as the Mondeo, Ford's midsize sedan that replaced the Fusion in China last year. The Blue Oval also sells a unique version of the Explorer in China, a unique coupe-like crossover known as the Evos.

According to information from China, the Edge is 196.9 inches long (the U.S.-spec Edge is over 8 inches shorter), making it more like a larger mid-size car.

A 2.0-liter turbo four with approximately 250 hp is confirmed as standard equipment. An electrified option with approximately 270 hp is also planned.

A related Lincoln Nautilus is also planned for later this year. This too is likely to be limited to the Chinese market.
