Modification upgrade cuts Porsche Taikan home charging time in half.

Porsche has unveiled a new on-board charger for the Taycan that could potentially cut home charging times in half.

The charger is a 19.2kw AC unit that can replace the Taycan's existing on-board charger located between the cabin and front trunk.

A compatible 19.2kw compatible Level 2 AC charger (240 volts) is required for the home and will require a dedicated 100 amp. Porsche also offers a proprietary unit named Wall Charger Connect.

According to Porsche, the new charger will take approximately 4.8 hours to charge the Taycan's 79.2 kwh performance battery from 0-100%, compared to the current 9.5 hours; for the 93.4 kwh Performance Battery Plus, the current 10.5 hours vs. 5.3 hours.

The new on-board charger can be installed at any Porsche service center. It is designed to fit all Taycans, regardless of year, and costs $1,850.15. Estimated labor time is 12 hours, which could more than double the bill. It can also be ordered through Porsche's configurator for new customers.

The Wall Charger Connect retails for $1,586. For best performance, it must be connected directly to a 100 amp circuit, but it is designed to work with lower capacity circuits.
