2024 Volkswagen Golf Spy Shots: New Dash Coming in Mid-Cycle Update
Volkswagen engineers were spotted testing a prototype of what appears to be a mid-cycle update of the Golf.
The current eighth-generation Golf was introduced in the U.S. last year as a 2022 model and only as the sportier GTI and R models. However, it has been on sale in other regions since early 2020.
This updated version should be available by late 2023 or early the following year. The prototype is for the regular Golf, but most changes should carry over to the GTI and R models.
The exterior will remain unchanged, but things could change in the more advanced prototypes. Inside, the dashboard has been modified with a much larger infotainment screen. The current Golf has an 8.3-inch infotainment screen.
It is not clear if the update will bring any mechanical improvements, but some powertrains may receive a power boost. The front-wheel-drive GTI is currently powered by a 241 hp 2.0-liter turbo four, while the all-wheel-drive R is powered by the same engine but with 315 hp. Earlier this year, a special edition "R 20 Years" with 329 hp was also announced.
Updates will be released as development progresses.
