2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid with new Willys grade at reduced price.

Jeep plans to bring a new electric off-roader called Recon to showrooms in 2024, but as it focuses on new electrification, it has not forgotten about the Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid version starting in 2021.

Jeep is proud to say that the Wrangler 4xe is the most popular plug-in hybrid in the U.S. In 2023, starting prices will start at $55,590 for the new entry-level Willys grade, including a $1,595 destination charge Lowering the price will further entice buyers to purchase.

This is a reduction from $56,190 for the current 2022 Wrangler entry-level Sahara. Other grades include the better-equipped High Altitude and Rubicon.

Despite being the entry-level grade in the 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe lineup, the Willys comes with LED headlights, 17-inch wheels, LT255/75R17C mud-terrain tires, rock rails, limited-slip differential, 9 speaker Alpine audio system, and all-weather floor mats as standard equipment. There are also retro-designed "Willys" decals and new "Electric 4-Wheel Drive" decals. Popular features such as a Sky One-Touch Power Top and an 8.4-inch infotainment screen are also available.

Of course, there is also the Wrangler's off-road capability, supported by a 2.72:1 Selec-Trac full-time four-wheel drive system, heavy-duty Dana 44 axles, and a lift kit that provides 10.1 inches of minimum ground clearance. Mud tires allow for 30 inches of immersion. [The 2.0-liter turbo four is paired with two electric motors that produce 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. The electric motors are powerful enough to drive the vehicle in 4WD mode without the help of the engine, in which case, thanks to a 17.3 kwh battery, it is capable of up to 21 miles of electric driving.

The 2023 Jeep Wrangler Willys 4xe debuted Wednesday at the 2022 Detroit Auto Show.

Orders for the Wrangler Willys 4xe are now being accepted, with the first deliveries scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2022. Production will take place at Wrangler's home base in Toledo, Ohio.
