Spy shots of the Tesla Model S Plaid with Active Aero: new performance upgrades on the way?
[Tesla verified the car's performance in September when it recorded a lap time of 7:35.579 on a 12.9-mile run of the Nürburgring.

Now the company appears to be preparing upgrades to make the electric hatchback even faster.

The latest spy shots show the Model S Plaid with an extended front lip spoiler and an integrated rear spoiler with active components. The rear spoiler is normally hidden in the trunk lid, but the driver can extend it (perhaps by selecting track mode), and during hard braking the spoiler tilts forward and acts as an air brake.

According to the photographer, the latest prototype did two laps of the Nürburgring in one run before returning to the garage, whereas previous tests of the Model S Plaid had only done one lap in one run.

The photographer also noted that the prototypes were fitted with different tires for road testing than those used on the race track.

Prior to the unveiling of the Model S Plaid, Tesla had estimated that lap times in the 7:20s were achievable and even 7:05s were possible. Presumably the company is currently developing upgrades to get closer to these goals. Note that this is not like the previously announced Model S Plaid+ prototype; plans for this car were canceled in June, and Tesla claims that the regular Plaid is fast enough.

Tesla began deliveries of the Model S Plaid in June. This car has a three-motor powertrain with 1,020 hp, 0-60 mph acceleration in 1.99 seconds, and a quarter mile in 9.23 seconds. Top speed is claimed to be 200 mph.

If you want to experience that performance every day, the Model S Plaid is currently available for $131,190. There is also a Model X Plaid with the same powertrain and slightly more modest performance, starting at $121,190. Both include destination.
