Spy shots of the 2023 Porsche Cayenne: hints of a major update to the performance crossover.

Porsche is testing a prototype of an updated version of its Cayenne midsize crossover.

Judging by the changes on the prototype, the popular performance crossover will get a radical new look, at least for Porsche.

The front end has been completely redesigned and gets new headlights with a flatter and more angular shape, similar to those used on the Taycan model. The daytime running lights integrated into the front end also have a new design.

The taillights are completely hidden, indicating a new concept. It can also be noticed that the trunk door has been redesigned, as the license plate recess has been moved to the rear panel. A similar design has already been used on the related Cayenne coupe.

While we don't see the interior, we can assume that the dashboard has been updated to include a fully digital instrument cluster similar to the one on the Taycan.

It's also unclear what Porsche plans to do with the powertrain. Typically, Porsche increases the power output of most models when they are updated. Currently, the Turbo S E-Hybrid is at the top of the lineup, with a maximum output of 670 hp.

The updated Cayenne is expected to hit the market in 2022 as a 2023 model. The same updates will likely carry over to the Cayenne Coupe as well.

Both variants of the Cayenne are expected to follow the updated Macan and the new battery-electric Macan under development.
