Spy shots of the 2022 Renault Megane E-Tech Electric: the French relative of the Nissan Alya will soon be on the market.

The unusual Renault Megane eVision concept car, unveiled last fall, is currently being tested as a production model.

It will go on sale in markets where Renault operates from 2022 and will bring a new logo to the French brand. The teaser image below shows the rear of the car and the new logo.

Teasers showing the interior also suggest that it is likely to have a digital dashboard with a digital screen as the instrument cluster and a second screen as the infotainment unit.

The Megane E-Tech Electric is a compact crossover built on the CMF-EV modular platform for future battery vehicles from the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance. The platform will debut in the Nissan Ariya compact crossover, due to be unveiled later this year as a 2022 model.

The Megane E-Tech Electric can be characterized as a tall hatchback, similar to the recently introduced Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Chevrolet Volt EUV. The height is due to the raised floor that houses the battery, which in the original Megane eVision concept had a capacity of 60 kWh. A similar one is expected in the production version.

If we revisit the concept's specifications, the front axle will be driven by a single electric motor with about 217 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque.

The car is about 165 inches long and should be similar in size to the current Megane hatchback. However, the car will not replace the current Megane. It will be part of an extended Megane family.

The Megane E-Tech Electric is not the only electric car in development at Renault. The French automaker is also developing a subcompact hatch, heralded by the 5 prototype unveiled in January, which the company calls a spiritual successor to the classic R5 (known as the LeCar in the U.S.).
